Breastfeeding & Poor Bill Maher

I started running into so many hostile commentaries on the net calling late night comedian Bill Maher so many angry names, that I just had to go find out for myself what he said.

So yup! He sure was obnoxious! And yup, he sure got a few belly laughs out of me!! Why? Because like many comedians, he's in the business of being obnoxious, and gee, can we really tell how much of what comes out of his mouth he truly believes? When I was young I used to drive my boss crazy. He tried whining one day that a certain process wasn't working well because a "woman" had designed it. Whereas earlier I had seen one woman crying in the bathroom apparently over his shenanigans, I just burst out laughing when he tried it on me. He looked stunned and asked why I was laughing. I just told him I knew he was far too intelligent to truly believe what he'd said, so I knew he was just razzing me. A look of total "You're absolutely right, you caught me" came over his face, and he just blurted out "Oh, you're no fun!" But that was the end of it. He never tried that again on me, although he probably tormented the other poor woman endlessly for his own amusement.

So look, I sure hope people can have a sense of humor about Bill Maher's breastfeeding monologue. He was equally if not more obnoxious concerning all the other topics he covered in that same monologue. Just take a look at the audience he was playing to - young, liberal leaning, childless, oh so "in" crowd. Of course Bill Maher was being as obnoxious as possible to get the best possible reaction (for his purposes) out of that crowd. If anyone cares to remember, the name of his old late night TV show was "Politcally Incorrect", which was cancelled after he was over-the-top obnoxious after 9/11. So given his history, take him with a grain of salt. He makes lots of money with his particular style of so-called "humor". But for you, it's really nobody's business where or when you feed your baby, least of all anything that comes out of a late night comedian's mouth. He is totally irrelevant to your life. Does he really believe all the nonsense he was delivering? Not likely much of it! He's far too intelligent, but in the end, it matters nada to you. Just go on being the best mother possible for your baby, and thank God Bill Maher is not the father! Maybe he's just envious of David Letterman's late life fatherhood anyway! ;-)

All the Breast,

Suzanne.
